As the year 2009 draws to a close, while there are still Christmas left-overs, the thoughts naturally turn to New Year’s resolutions. Can remember what you really wanted to change last year? And...... how did it go?
When our children were still at school, my big ideal was to pack them really nutritious and tasty lunches. Oh dear, no memories about their school break munchies! (Sorry kiddo’s!)
Well, towards the end of last year, ie, 2008, Gordon and I started to go to
Spicer Street Independent Evangelical Church in St Albans where the gospel is preached, where the Scripture is expounded – where the people love one another and others (and God, of course!)
Backk to New Year’s Resolutions. After hearing the gospel again at church, at our Bible Study, we were both fired up to get to know the GOOD NEWS better. And, do you know, that is exactly what happened during 2009. Our bible study group went through the whole of the gospel of John. Greg and Ruben preached on “John” during both Sunday services. We have found the most inspiring websites and online preaching to which we have listened many a time in “the background”. The gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ, grace and sin, God’s sovereignty our security and new lives and true freedom and drinking living water and seeing how these transform us in our specific roles, and... and... and! The dynamic of the gospel in action in our ordinary lives!
And so….here is a last-year-resolution that has really worked: a first! Yes, we want to get rid of the extra kilograms asap (the chocolates and cakes were yum!), yes we would like to try to swim regularly again (let’s see how that goes). But we would definitely want to grow in grace this year, we definitely want to see the right motives in place to do so, i.e. bin the self-serving motivations.
We clink our glasses with you to growing in grace and the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ – in all our roles – and know there is going to be transformation, change for good and development, failures and forgiveness – no matter what our circumstances in 2010!
The meaning of “blessed” is “happy happy” – so we wish you a blessed, happy, happy 2010. “Blessed, happy, happy is the man, the woman, the child, the teenager who put their trust and confidence in the Lord Jesus Christ”
