1 Corinthians 13:4 Last thoughts before midnight and bed-time

From my friend's blog: where  you will find her latest post on Charity (love) and its fruits.  I got as far as summarising the headings and already there is so much insight:

I want to learn and remember and be changed!  As it has been a rushed reading on my part, please take my summary as "under correction".

1 Corinthians 13:4
Motivated by:
  • The example Christ has set for us.
  • Not to fight opposition as if this unusual:  we live in an imperfect world.
  • The attitude of meekness elevates us above the hurts and injuries.
  • Patience and meekness are marks of true greatness of soul.
  • Note the examples of patience in other Christians.
  • God is patient with us.
Objections to practising patience and meekness:
  • My hurts are intolerable.
  • My offenders are unrepentant.
  • When I forgive them they will be encouraged in their offenses.
How true!  If we are meek and humble and patient, then it does set us above the ordinary and extraordinary hurts we have to bear in this life.  The proud heart gets terribly offended and is driven to get even, while the meek and trusting heart leaves the revenge with God.

Off to bed with those thoughts in mind and the hope to be transformed by them as we put on patience and humilty and meekness - by grace - how else?!
